unimpressed

Being in Los Angeles is so draining. Being around such relaxed people is draining. Being in a place that knows no sense of urgency is draining. Even the amazing neverending, overwhelming sunshine is draining.

The one thing I do love about this place is the fact that it is over-saturated with Korean people, and therefore, has many restaurants and places reminiscent of Korea. For example, I was driving along Wilshire Boulevard and was shocked to see a Bon Juk restaurant. I absolutely love jook, in sickness and in health, and loved the Bon Juk in Korea. To begin with, the moment I walked in, I felt as if I had stepped out of LA and back into Korea. The interior was designed like the restaurants in Korea -- small, cute, and clean with an extremely polite wait staff. The vegetable jook that I ordered tasted just as good as the one I had in Korea. I know that's the point of a franchise, but this was especially comforting to me because I miss Korea a lot. I mean, that's the reason Americans go to McDonald's in other countries -- it takes them back to America even for those 30 minutes. It's comfort food! I think having built relationships back in that country has something to do with this insatiable desire to go back, even for those 30 minutes.

Regardless, Korea holds a special place in my heart and LA does not.
